President

Tanner Humbert

Tanner is a second year PhD student under Dr. Craig Davis and Dr. Sam Fuhlendorf. He works with animal habitat selection behavior and its interface with changing vegetative and climate landscapes. Currently, he works with northern bobwhites as a model for ground nesting birds. Tanner is from Abingdon Virginia and earned his BS in Fish and Wildlife Conservation, and his MS in Forest Resources and Ecological Conservation at Virginia Tech. His personal interests are storytelling, film, music, video games, camping, animal spotting, and upland bird hunting among countless others.

Breanna Jolley

Bre is a first year forestry Master's student working with Dr. Bryan Murray on trying to understand how hyperspectral reflectance can be used to quantify and predict plant physiological traits. She is from Utah and graduated with a B.S. in biology from Southern Utah University in 2024. She started at OSU in 2026 after a few years full of travel and working various seasonal jobs across the country as a conservation crew member and biology technician. In her free time she likes to read, craft, play video and board games, watch anime and Kdramas, and dote on her ball python, Calypso.

Amelia Zimmerman

Amelia is a Master's student in fisheries, studying the potential effects of live sonar on Black Bass and Crappie. Amelia is from Omaha, Nebraska, and earned her B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology from Missouri State University. Outside of school, Amelia enjoys fishing, gardening, antiquing and being outdoors.

Sophie Roberts

Sophie is a Master's student in the Ecohydrology lab studying wildfire impacts on runoff and sediment transport in forests and grasslands of the Oklahoma Cross Timbers. She earned a BA in biology from Kalamazoo College and worked as an ecological research technician a few years before returning to school in 2024. When not in the field or the lab, Sophie can be found reading, playing board games, trying new recipes, and spoiling any cat they see.

Ret Tanner

Ret is a Master's student in Dr. Mark Turner's lab studying how fire seasonality influences wildlife resources in Oklahoma grasslands and shrublands. Ret is from Charleston, South Carolina, and earned his B.S. In Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture from Mississippi State University in 2025. When he's not burning, Ret enjoys duck hunting, gardening, and going to the movies.

Quan Zhang

Quan is a Ph.D. student from Hunan Province in southern China. His research focuses on wildfire modeling, climate change impacts on wildfire dynamics, and ecological responses to wildfires in the Southern Great Plains. He received a B.S. in Geography from Shaoyang University, China, and an M.S. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Ningbo University, China. In his free time, he enjoys reading, particularly the works of Victor Hugo, exploring new ideas and technologies, staying active through fitness, badminton, and cooking.
